Ronald McDonald House Charities
Each philanthropy we put on, supports and donates to the Omaha location, Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House is a place where families with children in the hospital can stay for free. There is food provided, as well as other amenities that each family may need. As a sorority, throughout the year, we make it a priority to go to a house, normally the Des Moines location, and clean, cook meals, restock the food, and have a conversation with the families. The best part is knowing that with each donation, a family can refresh and be put at ease, and can focus on the most important part of their day, being with their loved ones.
In 1979, Alpha Delta Pi became the first Greek-lettered organization to partner with a charitable organization when we began our association with Ronald McDonald House Charities. The mission of the Ronald McDonald House is, “to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children.” Over the past 36 years, Alpha Delta Pi has contributed over $9.2 million to Ronald McDonald House Charities around the world.

Live Your Oath
In the fall, Pi Chapter hosts a philanthropy event, called Chili in the Courtyard, to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Members sell tickets for students, family and friends to come eat chili at the chapter house. In 2017, Pi Chapter partnered with Greek House Chefs to make it a chili competition.
Ronald McDonald House Visits
In the spring, our annual philanthropy is Alpha Delta Pies.
This is where we invite members of the Greek Community and Iowa State to our home for pie and ice cream.
Along with the food we have music and the option for our guests to donate an additional $2 to pie their favorite ADPi in the face.
We create a fun environment for everyone to come to and know that they are donating to the Ronald McDonald House Charities for wonderful families who need a place to stay.
Since families are normally busy at the hospital all day, it's nice for them to come home to a home-cooked meal provided by our sisters.
Learning about the families is one of the most rewarding part of devoting time at the Ronald McDonald House. Each family's story is different and it's good to know you are impacting them in such a positive way.
Coming home to a clean house is another way that we can make sure that each family feels welcome and at ease.
In 2015, Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Phi Epsilon partnered nationally to be the first Greek organizations to step forward to start the conversation about sexual assault on college campuses and to lead the way in ending it. At Pi chapter, we partnered with the Iowa State Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter to take an oath to do our part in this movement and also to protect all members in the Greek community against hazing. We sponsored an event in our courtyard where the entire Greek community was invited to take their oath as well. We were awarded First Place for Best Sexual Assault Prevention Practice for this event.
